Experience Building Program

Registered members click Boat Reservation to reserve a boat

Introduction

There are two ways to participate in this program; either as a skipper or a crew member. Only qualified skippers may reserve boats. Crew members may sail with any qualified skipper.

The skipper packages give you all the benefits of being a boat owner with none of the hassles or expenses. This is a great way to build confidence and competence without any large capital outlay.

The primary objective of this program is to provide an economical means for Ynot Sailing clients to practice sailing, improve their boat handling skills, and gain valuable experience.

Graduates from other sailing schools and experienced sailors will be considered for membership but will need to be pre-qualified (see below).

Ynot Sailing Graduates

Suitable Ynot Sailing Basic Cruising graduates will automatically be accepted into the program in the season in which they graduate. This applies to the boat they trained on and the location in which they took their course. To use a boat in any other location they would simply need to complete a short boat and area familiarization session.

Graduates from earlier seasons who have maintained their competence level will also be automatically qualified. Graduates from previous seasons who have not regularly sailed since graduating should sign up for refresher / evaluation sessions.

Other Sailing Skippers

Graduates from other sailing schools and/or experienced sailors with equivalent experience will need to prove their competence. They will be required to satisfactorily complete an interview on safe operation of a vessel and sailing theory, plus an on-the-water evaluation. Call or email for details.

Crew Requirements

Most activities in life are better if shared. Sailing is no exception. For your safety and enjoyment we require that the boat have a qualified skipper and at least one qualified crew member on board at all times. You may select crew members from the Ynot Sailing crew list.

Single Handed Sailing

If you wish to sail single handed we can provide additional training and show you how to safely solo sail . Typically this only requires one or two private coaching sessions after completion of your basic course.

Participant List

All participants in this program, skippers and crew, will be included in this on-line password protected list unless they indicate otherwise.

Contact info will made available for skippers seeking crew and crew seeking skippers.

All Ynot Sailing graduates automatically qualify for inclusion in the list as crew members. Other applications will be considered based on training and experience.

Skippers are encouraged to give as many sailing opportunities as possible to crew members. Skippers who accumulate at least ten crew usages will receive a 10% reduction in the following years program.

There is an annual listing fee of $150 for all crew members.

Guests

Skippers may invite guests to join them while sailing, subject to the details of the package chosen. Guests are not allowed on the boats operating out of BDYC but are allowed on the boats operating out of Pointe Claire. There must never be more than a total of four people on the boat and the guests must be given a safety briefing by the skipper.

Boats

In the Montreal area we have boats available in Baie d'Urfé and Pointe Claire.
The boats in Baie d’Urfé are primarily used for training courses.
The boats in Pointe Claire are primarily used for experience building.
The training boats are available to Experience Building program members whenever they are not being used for training purposes.

Safety Equipment

All mandatory safety equipment will be provided with the boat. The skipper must check that all the required safety equipment is on board and that all the crew know the location of each item and how to use them. Should the boat be taken without all the equipment on board it is the skipper who will be responsible for paying any fines or penalties imposed by the authorities.

PFD's must be worn by all on board whenever the boat is not tied to a dock. It is the skipper's responsibility to ensure the crew and boat are safe at all times. Therefore any infraction will result in the skipper forfeiting the damage deposit and the immediate exclusion of the offender from the program without refund.

Yacht Club Memberships

Yacht club membership is not required to use the boat in our Pointe Claire location.

Yacht club membership is required for skippers using boats in Baie d'Urfé. Ynot Sailing students and graduates are automatically members in the year of their course. All others should apply to the BDYC membership secretary.

Reservation Process

During the season we have an on-line boat reservation system. Apart from the price one of the biggest differences in the packages is the allowed advance booking period. This ensures that the seasonal user always gets priority.

Packages

The different packages are summarized in the table. Pick the package which most suits your schedule and budget. Boats will be available from May to October. All Packages require pre-payment of a $500 (cash) damage deposit. If you choose to use the secure on line method of payment there is an additional $10 non refundable administration charge.

The damage deposit will be returned at the end of the usage period providing the boat and equipment are in the same condition as at the beginning of the period.

Seasonal

Pay one fee and get all the advantages of having a boat available without any additional expense. This package has the most flexibility.
