Introduction to Racing

Sailboat racing is fun and one of the best ways to improve your boat handling skills. If you are relatively new to sailing or racing this 4 evening course will get you going in the right direction. Although primarily aimed at keelboat sailors all the topics also apply to dinghy sailors.

The sections dealing with rig tuning and sail shaping are also applicable to cruisers who want to get better performance out of their boats.

Ynot Sailing is pleased to be the only CYA/FVQ registered sailing school in Quebec offering this course.

The instructor for this course has competed in many regattas including Canadian and US national championships. He has also held certifications as a national level judge and national level race management officer. He represented Canada at Olympic qualifying regattas in New Zealand as an official. He has participated as a Race Committee member at several world championships.

This course covers the theory content of the CYA Basic Keelboat Racing Standard. If you just want to learn and are not interested in CYA certification ignore this paragraph. Sailors wishing to achieve this standard must also participate in a minimum of 4 races and be evaluated on at least one of them. There is also a theory exam.

For sailors interested in learning how to fly a spinnaker a separate on the water coaching session will be required.
